Seventeen-year-old Aharon Tzarfati of Ra'anana died Monday during pre-conscription evaluations of candidates for the naval commando in the second similar death over the past month.
The navy initiated an investigation into the incident and Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Dan Halutz ordered a halt to all such evaluation exercises until findings of the probe are available.

Zion : the Yemenite restaurant ! Memories 1970

Week-end in Tel-Aviv (thank's to Olivier's, who generously lent his house to us). Woke up early and went to the beach with VIP. Crossed the Kerem Ha'Temanim (the Yemenite section) and suddenly bumped into Zion ! The neighbourhood is changing and the street corners near Zion just disappeared ! For those who remember this great place :

Oulpan : the class : Monday through Thursday

En haut deux des 4 profs, Fina à Gauche (Cousine Kiki israelienne, ça rigole ?) , Liat à droite, la technicienne qui rigole pas !

En résumé September 2006...

We arrived here July 25th. After the "setup" time and now that the tourists are gone, we are on our own in our new country ! We are left to ourselves.
A school meeting 2night showed us
how difficult it is without knowing the hebrew language. The oulpan will give us a better knowledge (of hebrew) but we will have to work hard to integrate the israeli society (so I learned 5 months will not be enough)

Jerusalem is nice but the sea is nicer. The city is small, the country is small (but so it is easy to go from one place to another !).
And there are some real
enlightened religious bums around the corner here !

We have not been exposed to the Israeli administration yet . We do not work yet. We did not go to the movies yet.
We meet new people : in the oulpan, in our everyday life (
the doctor, the vet, the butcher, the technical guy from Bezeq -telephone and adsl-, the Toyota salesman).
We see other people : french friends and family that made aliya with us, french or others that are living here since ages...

To be continued ...

the boys are also in oulpan from Sunday to Thursday and then go the Gymnasia high school on Fryday (in Rehavia, where we will soon live).
As of myself, I am in the Morasha Oulpan, in the center of Jérusalem, near Damascus gate.

The Macchina comes from Taiwan : a Sym 250 : it is nice. Not a chicken wing (Silverwing).
But one has to start somewhere !
It already took me to Rosh Hayin and Herzliya (and back). http://eyeonisrael.com
And Sacha and Zac love it. Be careful ! buses are deadly (see previous post)
